The year 1978 was full of twist and turns with the beginning of the demise of detente and the debate of Salt II, the US and the Soviet Union found themselves battling with international issues. The Camp David Accord agreement was met and Iran was under alot of duress. Economically the Soviet Union was struggling and the US was attempted to prosper and get back on its feet after years of turmoil with the Korean War and Vietnam War adding additional pressure.

Salt II dealt with the military development of the two superpowers and the containment of nuclear weapons building.

Socially the US was stable and women's rights were on the rise with the first women astronauts being appointed to NASA.

We see a new Pope come to rise and the spirit he eventually will bring to his homeland in Poland.

And we see that the US was looking for a good laugh. Most of the top ten television shows for the year were comedies and the movies were soft comedies as well. Disco was abound and the country was dancing to the Bee Gees.

US PLEDGE
