1956 was a remarkable year in the course of the cold war, with many important events. Early in 1956 Khrushchev released his secret speech in which he denounced the tactics of the Stalin era. 1956 also saw the Soviets crushing revolts in their neighboring countries, with Hungary being the prime example. In June of 1956 America began work on its interstate system that allowed rapid travel for anyone through out the states. Late in that year was the Suez canal crisis which saw Britian, France, and Israel attack Egypt due to the nationalization of the Suez canal. In the ended the Soviet and Americans joined forces in the United Nations to put an end to the fighting in the Suez canal.

1956 was a year that saw conflict between the two world powers in Hungary- Soviets crushing the rebel forces while the American sponsered Radio Free Europe promised support that never came. While in the same year the powers united to bring peace to the Middle East.
